Necip İlker Karaoğlan

Necip İlker Karaoğlan is the author of The Long Road to a Verdict and the creator of Jack Nahit Demirsoylu, the novel’s central fictional character. He is a corporate legal counsel, legal researcher, and Editor-in-Chief at a private publishing house, distinguished by his scholarly work in the field of law.
Born in Hatay on 15 February 1980, Karaoğlan graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Law. After completing his legal traineeship in Ankara, he began practising as an attorney. He has published numerous articles in the field of private law, with a particular emphasis on international arbitration. His scholarship in international law also includes articles published in the Cambridge International Law Journal.


Karaoğlan completed graduate-level studies at Harvard University and holds an advanced qualification in Public Law. He has also undertaken translation work involving French, English, Italian, and Spanish for matters before the Turkish Ministry of Justice.


His research in comparative law led to the publication of Turkish-language editions of the Constitution of the Italian Republic and the Constitution of Spain. Following the publication of his books on international arbitration and the international jurisdiction of Turkish courts, he co-authored, with Resul Aslanköylü, Honorary President of the 10th Civil Chamber of the Turkish Court of Cassation, the two-volume, 2,058-page Commentary on Law No. 5510 on Social Insurance and General Health Insurance.


Formerly an individual supporter of the Vancouver Maritime Arbitrators Association, Karaoğlan has also served as an arbitrator in connection with the Association for International Arbitration, the Maldives International Arbitration Centre, and the China Maritime Arbitration Commission. Alongside his work in arbitration, he has long provided legal advisory services to diplomatic missions. He currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors and legal counsel to the Italian Cultural Institute affiliated with the Embassy of Italy.
